Schedule : Waiting for the call
The 26th Quiksilver In Memory of Eddie Aikau is making final preparations for the 2010/11 Hawai'ian winter. The official holding period extends from December 1st, 2010 through February 28th, 2011. The competition will be staged on a day when waves exceed the 20-foot (Hawaiian Scale) minimum. The traditional opening ceremony at Waimea Bay will take place December 2nd, 2010, at 2:30pm.
It has been almost a year since this big wave invitational last ran on December 8, 2009 – a day that is still considered the greatest single episode in the history of big wave riding.
Though Aikau has been gone for more than 30 years, the honor and prestige of being invited to his memorial event continues to grow. This year's gathering of the world's big wave brotherhood will amass 28 premier surfers who will prepare to ride this winter's giant swells from the Pacific Northwest.
